It sounds like easy money: "Help Needed Now! Work From Home Processing Mail $5 per Envelope! Guaranteed!! Start Immediately." Unfortunately, the company making this offer is quickly accumulating inquiries and Better Business Bureau's attention.
Since August 2009, BBB has received 12,641 inquiries and 21 complaints about Pacific Publications. Though the company has attempted to resolve complaints, BBB is concerned with their pattern of complaints and the industry in which they operate. Pacific Publications has an "F" rating with BBB serving Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington.
Complaints allege that consumers responding to a work-at-home advertisement usually paid $42 or $50 to receive a kit that would allow them to process mail and more. However, many complainants never received the kit. Complainants who did receive it were unsatisfied to discover it was a booklet describing ways to make money from home, not an actual job working from home.
Although Pacific Publications' websites –- pacificpubs.com and funsimplework.com -- advertise a 100 percent money back guarantee, complainants allege having trouble contacting the company about concerns.
The company claims a Seattle address of 3213 W Wheeler St. Ste 19, but it appears this is a rented box at a mailbox rental company, not a physical location for Pacific Publications.
With work-at-home scams lurking, BBB encourages consumers to be cautious of job opportunities that require applicants to pay. Check out businesses for free at www.bbb.org.
