Online retailer Lotion Source lands an “F” rating with Better Business Bureau after numerous complaints of delayed orders and undelivered products. The company advertises a private mailbox in Vancouver, Wash., and appears to be selling products through lotionsource.com and worldgiftsource.com.
Lotion Source has raked in 80 complaints within the last 36 months, including ones in Oregon and Washington.
When purchasing lotions, beauty products and cosmetics online, apply caution. BBB serving Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington offers shopping tips:
- Don't buy into advertising claims. Don't trust claims such as "fastest," "largest," and "number one" unless companies can provide substantiation.
- Read the labels. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, no cosmetic may be labeled or advertised with statements suggesting FDA approval. Visit fda.gov to view product information and labeling requirements.
- Test companies. Before making purchases, expect to see at least two forms of contact information on websites: phone numbers, email addresses and physical addresses. Be skeptical if no one is available by phone.
- Thoroughly read shipping, return and refund policies. Research companies on the Internet to see how other customers evaluate their product delivery practices. Print or save copies of policies when making purchases.
- Pay by credit card. Under federal law, shoppers can dispute charges if ordered items are not delivered. If no delivery time was stated, assume 30 days.
- Visit bbb.org. Find BBB Business Reviews, get online shopping advice or file complaints if issues occur.
