In response to a growing need for reliable charitable giving information, Better Business Bureau serving Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington developed a local Charity Review Program in 2000. The primary goal of BBB's Charity Review Program was, and is, to provide factual information to potential donors; thus enhancing their ability to make educated giving choices.
Operating through BBB Foundation—an affiliate of BBB serving Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington—we work with local, publicly soliciting organizations that request a BBB Charity Review and/or are the subject of public inquiries within the last 36 months.
BBB's local Charity Review Program will benefit your organization by providing important information to consumers, businesses, grant-giving organizations and other foundations. While participation with BBB is voluntary, it is important to remember that full disclosure of your organization's purposes and activities can reassure potential donors that they are making a wise giving choice.
To ensure fairness of evaluations, your BBB utilizes Wise Giving Alliance's 20 Charitable Standards of Accountability. These standards cover an organization's: finances, governance, fundraising materials, truthfulness of solicitations, among others.

Charity Seal and Review Benefits to Donors:
We look beyond "the numbers." While many charity watchdogs limit reports and conclusions to a charity's finances, BBB's Charity Review requests various supporting documents to evaluate the charity's governance, fundraising practices, solicitations and informational materials—in addition to how they spends their money.
Charities are held accountable. BBB charity evaluations are in effect for 2 years; however, BBB can amend reviews anytime to reflect new information or changes in a charity's practice.
Reviews are FREE. BBB continues to expand our charity database; providing you with free comprehensive reviews of all the charities listed in BBB's database.
